Under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and the Egyptian Tourism Authority, the World Cup Rally will cross Egypt during the period from January 8th till January 10th, 2012. This is the first time that the World Cup Rally runs throughout Africa crossing the continent from north to south, starting from London (UK), crossing Europe, to Cairo in Egypt and ending in Cape Town (South Africa.)

Racers officially took off from the British Parliament on December 31st, 2011 with the presence of the British Prime Minister, they left for the first leg of their journey crossing France, to Italy, Greece then across the Mediterranean to Egypt, through the Alexandria Port, passing by the Giza Pyramids, to Ain Al-Sokhna, Safaga, Marsa Alam and finally on to Cape Town.

The London to Cape Town World Cup Rally will see the participation of 1010 racers from 15 different countries who will compete in different types of classic cars produced between 1924 and 1980 as well as four-wheel drive cars for a total distance rally of 15000 km.

The World Cup Rally is being held every four years to celebrate England’s victory in the 1966 FIFA World Cup. The Rally starts from England and ends up in the FIFA World Cup host country, Cape Town. This is the first time that the World Cup Rally runs throughout Egypt, which represents a great opportunity to highlight the touristic sites of our country.
